Top Story
📰 Austin Startup Raises $26M to Fix AI’s 80,000-Pound Bottleneck

Fluxco raised $26 million to modernize how companies find, purchase, and manage electrical transformers.
The Austin-based company was founded by former investor Brian Tochman after he repeatedly saw energy and infrastructure projects delayed by transformer shortages.
Transformers are one of the least visible but most important parts of the power grid.
They regulate electrical voltage, making it possible to safely deliver power to everything from homes and factories to semiconductor plants and massive AI data centers.
The problem is they also weigh up to 80,000 pounds and take several years to develop.
Companies could invest nearly $7 trillion into data-center infrastructure through 2030, but none of those facilities can operate without the equipment required to actually connect them to the grid.
Fluxco’s platform combines:
AI-assisted technical specifications
Competitive bids from a network of transformer manufacturers
Pricing and delivery-time comparisons
Procurement, production, and delivery management
Ongoing servicing and project support
The long-term vision is to turn a slow, fragmented purchasing process into a modern industrial marketplace. Instead of spending months contacting manufacturers and comparing complicated proposals, customers can manage the entire process through one platform.
Fluxco has already processed orders for more than 1,000 transformers across 34 projects and generated approximately $30 million in orders within its first four months.
Austin is adding data centers, semiconductor factories, energy infrastructure, and other large industrial projects that will require enormous amounts of electricity.
Those projects can have the land, financing, construction crews, and technology ready, and still sit idle while waiting for a transformer.

📰 Why Transparent Communication Is the Cheapest Growth Lever You Have

Taylor Jones
Founder & Managing Owner of Wishbone Advisory
This is the last Growth Engine you'll read here. For the send-off, I want to talk about the least glamorous growth lever I know, the one that costs nothing, gets skipped constantly, and quietly determines whether every other lever works: how often and how honestly you communicate.
The Failure Mode Nobody Budgets for
Most stalled engagements I've walked into didn't fail on strategy. They failed on silence. A client assumed a task was handled by a vendor; the vendor assumed it was descoped; three weeks passed; the gap surfaced in a status meeting as a surprise instead of a sentence. Nobody was lying. Everybody was just waiting for a cleaner moment to raise it and cleaner moments don't arrive. They compound.
The operator lesson: misalignment rarely begins as a full disagreement. It's an un-had conversation. And the cost of an un-had conversation grows on a curve, not a line. What would've been a two-minute quick message on Monday becomes a scoped, defensive, relationship-taxing meeting by the end of the month.
Frequency Beats Polish
For nearly every type of role, there is a bias toward waiting until you have something clean (and often a positive spin) to report. Resist it. Though it may be short and imperfect, frequent updates outperform a comprehensive one because it keeps the delta small. When you surface things while they're still cheap to fix, you're not managing a crisis, you're steering. On the Amazon channel work we run, the cadence that holds accounts together isn't the monthly deck. It's the unremarkable constant updates that say: here's what moved, here's what didn't, here's the one thing I need a decision on.
Practical version: a standing weekly touchpoint with three lines what changed, what's blocked, what I need from you (whether managing up or down). Boring. Load-bearing.
Transparency is a Math Problem, Not a Just a Vibe
"Be transparent" gets treated as a values slide. It's actually an efficiency argument. Every fact you withhold, a slipping timeline, a metric that dipped, an assumption you're not sure holds is a fact the other side (whether internal or external) will eventually discover on a worse day, with less trust and less time to respond. You're not protecting the relationship by softening the number. You're borrowing against it at a bad interest rate.
The clients who trust you most are almost never the ones you told only good news to. They're the ones who watched you name a problem before they noticed it and bring the fix in the same breath.
What Alignment Actually Requires
Alignment isn't always agreement but shared visibility. Two people can disagree and still be aligned if they're looking at the same picture. What breaks a partnership is when the pictures quietly diverge. Three habits keep them synced:
Close the loop out loud. "Confirming we're descoping X" beats assuming it was mutual. Say the decision back.
Own the dip, not just the win. A number that's down is information, not necessarily an indictment. Treat it that way and so will they. It is far easier to “fail fast” and work to course correct than wait.
Make the ask explicit. "I need a decision on pricing by Thursday" moves faster than a paragraph hoping someone infers the urgency.
The Send-Off & What’s Next
Growth is mostly compounding small correct decisions. Communication is how you catch the incorrect ones while they're still small. It's the cheapest lever because it requires no budget and no tooling, just the discipline to say the quiet part early. Thanks for reading The Growth Engine here. Economic Outlook
📰 Austin Ranks Top 3 City for Starting a Career

Austin’s ability to attract people at the beginning of their careers is strengthening one of the city’s most important economic assets: its long-term talent pipeline.
The numbers:
No. 3 nationally among 182 U.S. cities
Up from No. 5 nationally last year
No. 1 city in Texas for starting a career
No. 1 nationally for quality of life
No. 10 for professional opportunities
No. 1 for average starting salaries after adjusting for cost of living
No. 15 for entry-level jobs per capita
The WalletHub rankings point towards Austin being one of the country’s strongest magnets for early-career talent. For local companies, that means a deep hiring pool. For the broader economy, it means more young workers earning, spending, building professional networks, and potentially launching companies of their own.
